Workers' World Speed Skating Championships

As a parallel to “bourgeois” competitions, socialist and communist sports unions sprang up in various countries. In addition to an envisioned parallel to the Olympic Games - the Spartakiad - separate International championships were also staged. These notably attracted Soviet skaters - who shunned international competition otherwise, as well as several top Norwegian skaters.
